White named Bismarck State State women's head coach
BISMARCK, N.D. -- Bismarck State College Director of Athletics Myron Schulz announced on Friday that Tyshawn White has been named the head coach for the inaugural season of the Mystic women's wrestling program.
"I am excited to welcome Coach White to Bismarck as our women's wrestling coach," said Schulz. "Tyshawn brings a ton of experience across many different programs, both as a coach and an athlete. We are confident that his leadership will build a strong foundation for the start of women's wrestling at BSC."
Tyshawn comes to Bismarck after leading wrestling programs at NCAA Division III Penn State Altoona's (PA). During the 2024-25 season, he guided the men's and women's programs to respective 5th and 4th place finishes in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC).
Prior to Penn State Altoona, White was an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Chadron State College (NE). During the 2023-24 season, White was part of a coaching staff that led the Eagles to a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) championship and a trip to the NCAA Division II Super Region 6 Championships. White was responsible for lightweights from 125 to 149 pounds and also assisted in management, development, and success, with an emphasis on athlete education, safety, and opportunity.
Before his time at Chadron State, White served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division III Messiah University (Mechanicsburg, PA) from July 2021 to January 2022. There, he assisted in recruiting, training, and the evolution of the Messiah wrestling team.
White also had a highly successful wrestling career as a collegiate student-athlete. He began competing at Lock Haven University (PA) from 2016 to 2018, contributing to an Eastern Wrestling League championship with the Bald Eagles. He continued his career at PennWest Clarion (PA) for the 2018–19 season before taking a year away from the sport.
He returned to the mat during the COVID-shortened 2020–21 season at Glenville State University (WV), then transferred to Shippensburg University (PA), where he achieved his greatest collegiate success. In 2021–22, White earned NCAA Division II All-American honors with a third-place finish at 125 pounds at the national championships.
During his collegiate career, White was also a two-time first-team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference selection at 125 pounds at both Clarion and Shippensburg.
Before his collegiate career, White was an accomplished high school wrestler. He was a four-time PIAA State Championship place-winner and ranked among the top 20 wrestlers in Pennsylvania by the end of his prep career. Tyshawn graduated from Central Dauphin High School in his hometown of Harrisburg, PA.
White earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Lock Haven and is working on a Master's in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine (CA).
