The Big Ten Wrestling Championships are headed to a neutral site for the first time in the tournament's 113-year history.

The conference announced Wednesday that Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, will host the 2027 championships on March 6-7. All 14 Big Ten programs that sponsor wrestling will compete in the two-day event.

The move gives the conference access to a larger venue as interest in Big Ten wrestling continues to climb. Nationwide Arena, home of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, has extensive experience hosting major sporting events.

Competition begins Saturday, March 6, with the opening round, quarterfinals, semifinals and wrestlebacks spread across the first two sessions. The tournament concludes Sunday, March 7, with consolation semifinals and seventh-place bouts in Session III before championship, third-place and fifth-place matches take center stage in Session IV. Big Ten Network and B1G+ will provide live coverage of all four sessions for the fifth consecutive year, with BTN broadcasts also available through the FOX Sports App. Ticket details and additional television information will be announced at a later date.

The conference enters 2026-27 riding a remarkable run at the NCAA Championships. A Big Ten program has won each of the past 19 national team titles, with Penn State accounting for 12 championships over the past 14 seasons. The Nittany Lions captured their 13th NCAA team championship in 2026, with four undefeated individual champions -- Luke Lilledahl (125, 25-0), Mitchell Mesenbrink (165, 27-0), Levi Haines (174, 26-0) and Josh Barr (197, 24-0). Minnesota's Max McEnelly added another Big Ten title at 184 pounds. Iowa leads the conference with 24 national titles overall, while Minnesota has won three and Indiana, Michigan State and Ohio State have each won one. Big Ten wrestlers also accounted for 12 of the 20 NCAA finalists in 2026.
